Lest we forget

Today is the day that we remember those that sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom.

At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them

Did you know that dogs have also been used in war? Some of us protected ammunition sites, some of us sniffed out bombs, others still looked for the remains of the dead. Then there was those whose willingness to serve man was abused. These dogs had bombs strapped to their backs and were taught to run under enemy tanks before being detonated.

Other animals, especially horses were also used. Three million horses were used in WWI. Very few of those animals survived.

Did you know that Bull Terriers were used to guard army camps? We did a really good job in the summer, but in the winter it was too cold and we used to leave our posts in favour of sleeping in the mens beds. We were fired.

Well Holly, you may not like being confined to the yard, but your Sue loves you and keeps you safe. Be grateful for that when you think of those poor dogs whose trust was misused.
